Heartbreaking: Hilaria Baldwin, 38, teared up as she recounted how her daughter Carmen, nine, said she wished she could ‚un-know‘ her father Alec’s accidental shooting of Rust cinematographer Halyna Hutchins in an interview with Extra from Monday
Although Hilaria and Alec’s younger children weren’t old enough to understand the gravity of the situation, the parents decided that Carmen and her brother Rafael, seven, were old enough to know.
‚There is no way that you can explain this because it is awful. It’s awful!‘ she said of the shooting. ‚I thought I was going to do this without Alec and he said, „No, I can’t be a coward. I have to be there.“‚
The knowledge of the terrible event was clearly difficult for Carmen to handle.
‚And then when I tell them… Carmen started saying to me, „Why are you telling me this?“… She said, „I want to un-know this,“‚ Hilaria recounted as her eyes began to well up with tears.

‚She used the word „un-know,“ and Alec said, „I want to un-know it, too,“ I think everyone wants to un-know it… because it’s real,‘ she continued, before pausing to dab at her nose with a tissue.
‚We can go forward and talk about gun safety on sets, and try to figure out how this crazy thing happened, and we can go forward and honor Halyna,‘ Hilaria added.
‚We can remember her, continuing her legacy for her, for her family and we can take care of everybody who’s still here who is extraordinarily damaged by this awful tragedy. That’s all that we can do, but we can’t un-know it.‘
She also added that she worried about how her husband was handling the knowledge of his involvement in Hutchins‘ death.
‚I worry about him… I mean, can you imagine? Nobody can. There was so much confusion to understand what had happened,‘ she said.
On Tuesday, Hilaria shared a somber photo of Carmen wearing glittering nails.

Hutchins was killed on October 21, 2021, when a prop gun containing live rounds that was held by Baldwin discharged. The film’s director, Joel Souza, was also hit by the rounds, though he survived his injuries.
Baldwin has denied having pulled the trigger on the gun, and he has sought to shift blame to crew members responsible for maintaining the gun, as well as crew members who handled it before it was given to him.
Although Hutchins‘ death is still being investigated, Baldwin and his fellow producers on the project have already settled a wrongful death lawsuit from Hutchins‘ widower, which will lead to him being added as a producer on the film.
In addition to producing the film, Alec is one of its stars.
The Hunt For Red October star could be facing serious criminal charges, as prosecutors in New Mexico indicated in September in a letter to the state’s financial board that he might be among those prosecuted for the death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins.
The results of the investigation were handed over to Santa Fe First Judicial District Attorney Mary Carmack-Altwies in late October.
